As a school within an urban research university, the mission of the Wayne State University School of Social Work is to transmit, develop, critically examine, and apply knowledge to advance social work practice and social welfare policy in order to promote social, cultural and economic justice for the betterment of poor, vulnerable, and oppressed individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations, and society, by:
I see WSU School of Social Work' Mission helping me to develop into the Social Worker I would love to become in several ways. As a Social Worker, It helps me to becoming a person that will strive harder in interrelated systems in values, practice, as well as theories for all people especially for older adults. Social Worker's Mission allows me to strive toward principles for human rights for all mankind also my values will be based on respect for the equality, worth, and dignity for all mankind. This mission helps me to stay focus as a Social Worker on servicing all persons and populations such as race, national orgin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, marital status, religion, immigration status, mental or physical disability, gays, lesbians, bisexuals and/or transgender just to name a few.

- conducting research, primarily relevant to urban populations; and
- providing innovative leadership and service to the urban community and the profession.
