WHY SOCIAL WORK
It has always been a passionate calling to be able to assist individuals in society to achieve healthy
wellbeing and optimum functioning and I also love to work with people, I love to help people help
themselves or I would not have ever worked for the State of MI in the Dept. Of Human Services
for over 28 years.
For me, as a social worker it is a process of self-exploration and professional growth. For me, it is
to level the playing field of life by offering opportunities to those from disadvantaged situations. As a social
worker it help us to become more human, it allows for opportunity to be with people and journey with them in
their struggles to live a life of respect and dignity.
As a social worker it will play a key role in global actions around social justice, policy development and community interventions.
Everywhere in the world there is growing poverty, increasing selfishness and growing injustice. As an social worker we challenges
problems such as poverty, unemployment, homelessness, children deprived of parental care, HIV/AIDS, disability, family violence, we
all fight against all areas of discrimination, and juvenile.
I realized as an social worker I will be involved in unlimited important activities here in the U.S. , some are reported/recorded and
many projects that are done goes beyond the call of duty and is never reported or recognized it is hidden or forgotten but that's ok
because what we do is from our hearts not for recognition. Some of the work social worker does is not for the money it is for the love
of the people. There are many diverse populations of people that are being affected daily and are in need of help as it relates to social work.
It is obvious that there is enormous need in the arena of social workers and they have much to offer around global cultures as well as
around the world. Social Workers provides a voice for the people who need the most help and are the least heard. We as social workers
cannot help the weak fight and let their voices be heard nor help the babies or youth that are abused without standing up to do so. These
are just a few reasons why it is so vital important for social workers to be in place daily to help the people all over the world.
